Practice Voice

Positioning and content for independent consultants and fractional executives

Too much of what you are known for depends on having a good week.Content is going out, but it is not adding up. The topics shift, it is not always clear who a given piece is for, and the profile, the posts, and the offer do not quite tell one story. Practice Voice is designed to reduce that dependence and build a more repeatable way of deciding what to say, to whom, and where.

What this is for

Fix the decisions, not the writing.

This track is for independent consultants and fractional executives whose content and positioning are inconsistent or accidental. Referrals have carried the practice this far, and they still can, but they move at someone else's pace rather than yours.

The goal is not to write more. It is to fix the decisions underneath the writing: what is worth saying, who it is actually for, and where it belongs. Most content problems are not a writing problem. They are a decision problem.

It is also for people who need to stay credible and present without looking like they are between engagements. That is a real tension, and most advice about posting more does not address it.

Why it starts with a Diagnostic

A short, practical starting point.

The work starts with the Content & Positioning Diagnostic. It is a short, practical way to understand what your content is actually doing today, who it is reaching, and where the gap sits between what a post claims, what your profile backs up, and what you sell. The point is not a long content audit. It is to make the next decision better and faster.

This is not a conversation with a scorecard attached. It is real work, and the output is yours to keep and act on.

How the Diagnostic runs

What it's actually looking at.

The Diagnostic looks at what you have actually published over the last six to twelve months, across whichever channels are active. That includes what you write about and why, who is engaging compared with who you believe you are writing for, which channel is carrying the weight and whether that is a deliberate choice or a default, and where the story breaks between the posts, the profile, and the offer. It also looks at how content gets made today: who writes it, what tools or help are already in use, and how much of your week it takes.

A recorded working session goes through specific pieces with you. What you were trying to say, to whom, and why that topic. What you believe worked, checked against what the numbers show. That conversation is also where your unscripted voice shows up, which is usually a better signal than the polished posts.

What you get from the Diagnostic

A prioritized design you can build from.

The Content & Positioning Diagnostic gives you a clear read on what is working, what is accidental and cannot be relied on, and where the audience you are writing for has drifted from the one you are best positioned to serve. That includes a slide deck summary and a short written summary.

It also gives you a prioritized design: which channel to build for first and why, and the shape of the system that should sit underneath it.

This track differs slightly from the other two. The underlying problem is usually singular, so the output is one clear path rather than two or three alternative moves to choose between. That does not make the build redundant. Naming the design tells you what to build. Getting it to actually sound like you, and to learn from what lands, is the work that follows.

What can come next

Only what's justified.

These aren't a menu. The roadmap says where you actually are and what earns the next move.
They often run together. Cadence alongside a Build, a Build alongside an Expansion.

Voice Build

Turn the diagnostic's design into a working practice: the positioning, the pieces you publish, and the system that produces them. This is where the judgment stops living only in your head.

Judgment Cadence

Ongoing sharpening and a shipping rhythm, so it does not decay back into writing when you happen to have time. This is not ongoing content production. What is retained is the judgment, not the pen.

Voice Expansion

Once the voice works without you carrying it every week, widen the surface: new formats, new audiences, a second voice inside the practice, turning attention into pipeline.

You cannot widen something that still depends on you personally, which is why Expansion follows a working system rather than replacing one. But this is not a ladder. Some practitioners take the design and run the Build themselves, and some never need a Cadence at all.

How execution support works

Support, not ghostwriting.

The roadmap stands on its own. It is usable if you take it and build the system yourself, and for this track that is a realistic and common outcome rather than an edge case.

Where support is useful, it can mean building the system directly, or working alongside you while you build it. Once it is live, support is periodic judgment and recalibration rather than day-to-day production.

This is not ghostwriting. The Build stands up a system that produces work in your voice. It is not a commitment to keep writing on your behalf indefinitely.

Proof

Examples are on the way.

The other two tracks carry redacted examples of the work and the deliverables. Practice Voice does not yet, and rather than dress up something thin, this section stays empty until there is real work to show.

Start with a discovery conversation that is useful on its own.

This is for independent consultants and fractional executives who want a thoughtful, like-for-like conversation about what their content is actually doing, where the positioning has drifted, and which next moves are most worth exploring. The goal is not pressure. It is clarity, reflection, and a better read on direction.
